Kill Trend Suicide is an EP from grindcore band Brutal Truth . It was released in 1996 and marks the beginning of the collaboration with the Relapse Records label .

History of origin

With Need to Control 1994 Brutal Truths appeared last album on Earache Records . The band canceled the contract with their old record company and applied to others. Relapse Records' Bill Yurkiewicz eventually signed the group. However, since the group did not have enough material for an LP, but Relapse pressed for a release, they recorded the EP Kill Trend Suicide on their debut . The recordings took place in the ramshackle Cutting Room in New York City in the summer of 1996 . The recording time was six days. Brutal Truth and Billy Anderson were responsible as producers .

The album contains a dedication to Yoshitomo "Tottsuan" Suzuki, the first Japanese singer of grindcore / hardcore punk band SOB , the 1,995 in June suicide committed.

Cover artwork

The cover is a photo montage by Steve Stoltzfus and shows a man with a revolver in his hand in front of an old television in a barren room. His shadow can be seen on the wall, shooting himself in the head. The 15-inch tube TV used for the picture reached a price of $ 50 on Ebay years later .

Music genre

Musically, Brutal Truth tried a fresh start with the Extended Play. According to Kevin Sharp, the singer at the time, the recordings turned out to be chaotic. So the studio was only minutes away from the CD shop where he worked. During his lunch break, he went over and sang his passages. This unorthodox approach also influenced the style of the album. So the pieces presented themselves much more chaotic and confused than on the previous albums. Overall, the style is more punk than metal .
