Kill Your Idols was an American hardcore punk band. She was one of the most important representatives of the New York hardcore scene.

history

In the early 1990s, the members independently discovered the New York hardcore scene. Infected at concerts by Gorilla Biscuits , Circle Jerks , Bold or the Dead Kennedys , they became part of the scene. Minor threats in particular had a huge impact and they began to live by the principles of the straight edge movement.

In early 1996 it was decided to found the band. In the beginning the band was purely a concert band, but the five-person group couldn't make a living from their concerts on their own and so the band members had to keep taking on other jobs. It wasn't until 2001 that the first record deal was signed with SideOneDummy . As a result, some fans questioned their independence and underground affiliation, who then turned away from the band. However, Kill Your Idols continues to reject tours with bands that they believe do not uphold their principles, as happened with Good Charlotte .

In 2006 there was a birthday show for the tenth anniversary of the band in the CBGB . Friendly bands like Ensign , Inhuman, Two Man Advantage, Shell Shock and others shared the stage with Kill Your Idols.

After the official farewell concert in the Smithtown Masonic Hall, New York on May 13, 2007, was canceled at short notice by the Sheriffs Department due to overcrowding, the band spontaneously played their last gig in a parking lot in front of over 200 people.

style

Kill Your Idols played original, fast, straightforward, energetic, rough hardcore, musically similar to the Negative Approach .

Trivia

Her style changed only marginally over the years. Therefore, critics occasionally accused them of actually only playing a single song. The musical closeness to Negative Approach was part of countless reviews and comparisons and was taken up self-ironically by the band both in the song “Stop Comparing us to Negative Approach” and on a T-shirt of the same name (the shirt adorned the band's logo and the mentioned slogan on the popular cover within the scene the first 7 "of NA).
