Mats Bernhard Kihlström (born January 3, 1964 in Ludvika ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current official.

Career

Mats Kihlström began his career as an ice hockey player at Södertälje SK , for whose professional team he made his debut in the second-rate Division 1 in the 1981/82 season . In the following season he and his team were promoted to the Elitserien . There the defender joined Södertälje in the 1983/84 season before spending two years with league rivals Brynäs IF . He then returned to Södertälje SK, with whom he was relegated to Division 1 in the 1991/92 season. Following the 1992/93 season , he ended his active career at the age of 29.

In the 2009/10 season , Kihlström was head of sport at his home club Södertälje SK.

International

For Sweden , Kihlström took part in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1981 and 1982 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 1983 and 1984 . At the U18 European Championship in 1981 he and his team won the bronze medal, at the U18 European Championship in 1982 the gold medal.

In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1985 , 1986 , 1987 and 1989 World Championships and at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . At the 1986 World Cup he won the silver medal with Sweden and the gold medal at the 1987 World Cup. At the 1988 Winter Games, he and his team won the bronze medal.
