Kim Deal (born June 10, 1961 in Dayton , Ohio , full name Kimberley Ann Deal ) is an American musician. She was the bass player for indie rock band Pixies and is a guitarist and singer for the Breeders .

Life

Kim Deal was born in Dayton, Ohio, where she grew up with her twin sister, Kelley . After her marriage to John Murphy, she moved to Boston . She met Frank Black and Joey Santiago through an ad in 1986 , with whom she founded the Pixies. Until her divorce in 1989 she used the stage name "Mrs. John Murphy ".

In 1989 she founded the Breeders as a side project to the Pixies, among others with Tanya Donelly from Throwing Muses , who released their debut album Pod in 1990. After a conflict with Frank Black, the Pixies broke up in 1993. In the same year the Breeders had worldwide success with the second album Last Splash and the single Cannonball . After Tanya Donelly left, Kelley Deal, Kim's sister, joined the band as the new guitarist. In 1994, however, Kelley had to be admitted to rehab because of her severe heroin addiction ; the Breeders were then put on hold for eight years. Kim Deal, for her part , struggled with alcoholism during this time and took several rehab cures. During this time she played with her other band The Amps and recorded an album with them. In addition, she produced albums for other bands, including Guided by Voices .

With Title TK (2002), Mountain Battles (2008) and All Nerve (2018) three more Breeders albums were released, between 2004 and 2013 Deal was again with the newly formed Pixies.
