Kim Kyung-tae was part of the South Korean national biathlon squad in the early 2000s. In Hochfilzen he made his international debut at the beginning of the 2000/01 season and was 107th of an individual. A few weeks later he achieved a double-digit result for the first time as 94th of a sprint in Osrblie . A first career highlight was the 2001 biathlon world championships in Pokljuka . Kim started in the sprint, in which he finished 94th, and in the individual, where he also achieved his best World Cup result with 73rd in the individual. In the 2001/02 season he came to no World Cup starts, he sporadically took part in World Cup races again in the 2002/03 season. The biathlon world championships in 2003 in Khanty-Mansiysk , where Kim Kyung-tae finished 90th in the individual and 76th in the sprint, were another highlight . Shortly before, he took part in the Winter Asian Games in Aomori , where he was 12th in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit and won the silver medal in the relay race with Son Hae-kwam , Shin Byung-kook and Park Yun-bae .
