action

The plumber Keld and his wife Rie, who have been married for 25 years, actually want to go on vacation together. But then she leaves him and drives alone. Keld becomes increasingly irritable, neglects his business, messes with customers. Little by little he has to sell his facility.

He begins to spend a lot of time in the nearby Chinese restaurant, eating his way through the menu. When one day there is a burst pipe in the kitchen, Keld prevents worse.

A friendship develops between Keld and the restaurant owner Feng. First Keld renovates the ailing kitchen for payment in kind. Feng then asks Keld to enter into a mock marriage with his sister Ling so that she can obtain a residence permit for Denmark. This one responds.

Ling is very beautiful and doesn't speak a word of Danish. The two communicate using a dictionary and Keld is even taking a Chinese course. They fall in love with each other.

Happiness does not last, Ling dies of a congenital heart defect. Keld travels home with the urn and scattered the ashes in the river, as has been the custom in her family for generations.
