Kinski is an American rock band from Seattle . Their sound is instrumental for a long time and can be attributed to noise rock . Comparable artists are Sonic Youth , Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age .
history
The founding of Kinski in 1998 allegedly goes back to a pub discussion between Chris Martin and Lucy Atkinson about whether analog or digital was the better recording method. The bartender Dave Weeks, who later became the group's drummer , got involved in this dispute . In the course of the conversation it turned out that they all shared similar tastes in music and they decided to form a band .
In 1999 Mattew Reid Schwartz joined the band, who, in addition to his guitar, also plays the keyboard and flute . In the same year the debut album Space Launch For Frenchie was released , which was self-distributed. In 2001, Kinski released their second album Be Gentle With The Warm Turtle on the Pacifico label . This was followed in 2002 by the EP Semaphore and in 2003 with Airs Above Your Station the third studio album, which was released under the well-known Seattle label Sub Pop in addition to a split with Acid Mothers Temple .
After finishing the recordings for this album Dave Weeks left the group and was replaced on drums by Barrett Wilke.
In 2004, with Crickets and Fireflies , another split release followed together with the bands Paik and Surface of Eceon , as well as the fourth album Don't Climb on and Take the Holy Water .
2005 saw the release of Alpine Static, the fifth studio album, which attracted the attention of Maynard James Keenan , who then invited Kinski to open as opening act during Tool's 10,000 Days tour in 2007 .
The last album to date, Cozy Moments , was released in 2013.
