Kirchberg vorm Wald is a district and a district of the municipality of Tiefenbach in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .

The parish church of St. John the Baptist

The parish village is located 432 meters above sea level on an elevation on the Tälchenbach near the A3 motorway , around five kilometers northwest of Tiefenbach. Kirchberg belonged to the regional court of Hals , a Bavarian enclave in the bishopric of Passau . For centuries Kirchberg consisted only of the church, the inn and the sacristan's house. The current rectory has stood in its place since 1892. The inn is still there today as Kirchenwirt Zacher.

In 1803 the regional court of Hals was dissolved and Kirchberg and the municipality of Gaishofen belonged to the regional court of Vilshofen . In 1821 the municipality of Kirchberg was established in place of the municipality of Gaishofen. On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria, the southern part of the municipality was incorporated into the city of Passau , the larger part came to Tiefenbach. On July 13, 2001, the name of the part of the community was changed from Kirchberg to Kirchberg vorm Wald by a decision from the Passau District Office .

From a church perspective, Kirchberg was originally a branch of Otterskirchen . In 1893 it became a branch and in 1901 a parish . A church is first mentioned in 1419. The choir of the parish church of St. John the Baptist dates from the late Gothic period. In the middle of the 18th century the nave was extended. In 1906, the architect Michael Kurz redesigned the nave and relocated the tower to the south side. The church contains a Gothic tabernacle as well as Gothic and Baroque figures.

The Catholic kindergarten St. John the Baptist is located in Kirchberg. The new Kirchberg elementary school, built in 1969, was closed in 2004.

1888 is the founding year of the Kirchberg volunteer fire department . The SV Kirchberg was founded on May 30, 1964, and the DJK-SV has existed since January 15, 1967. Other local associations are the soldiers and warriors' association Kirchberg v. W., theater group Kirchberg v. W., brass band Kirchberg v. W., Kindergarten Support Association Kirchberg v.
