The church Gernstedt is a sacred building of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany in Gernstedt , since 2009 a district of the municipality Lanitz-Hassel-Tal in Saxony-Anhalt district Burgenlandkreis . It is located directly on the B 87 near the entrance to the town and towers over the town.

prehistory

A pastor was first mentioned in a document in 1183. Between 1183 and 1190 the Pforta monastery acquired many possessions in Gernstedt and built a monastery fore around 1205 with further land purchases . The village fell, the church mentioned in a document disappeared.

There was a chapel in the cloister fore on the site of the demolished church. Because of the dissolution of the monastery in 1564 the chapel fell to the new settlers. With the parish right they belonged to Rehehausen . The pastor there came to Gernstedt every four weeks, from 1575 every two weeks. In 1878 the affiliation changed to Lißdorf .

The chapel consisted of bare walls and was dilapidated. It was not until 1743 that the church was rebuilt and enlarged, and the tower was rebuilt in 1792. The building was a styleless building from the 18th century.

Today's church in Gernstedt was built on a field that belonged to the Pforta state school . The porter-builder, government builder Max Leidich, created it in the neo-Gothic style . The first groundbreaking was on April 17, 1895, the foundation stone was laid on June 10, 1895, the church was consecrated and the first baptism was on June 10, 1896. The stones come from the quarry in the nearby Lanitztal.

The construction costs amounted to 31,200 Reichsmarks, of which more than a third - around 13,200 Reichsmarks - was paid for by the Pforta State School.

The organ is said to have been built by a son of the famous master organ builder Ladegast . Bells

The original three bronze - Church bells 65 centimeters, 79 centimeters and 105 centimeters in diameter dated back to 1844 and were greeted by Henry and Carl Friedrich Ulrich in Apolda cast.
