The church

The Protestant Church Wernshausen is in the Wernshausen district of the city of Schmalkalden in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district in Thuringia .

history

The successor was built in 1723 on the remains of a former village church. It also stands on the Heyer mountain spur, which protrudes 29 meters above the village. A staircase leads up to the church. Once you could see the year 1607 on a wall. It is certainly connected with the start of construction of the old church , because the baptismal font that was taken over is dated 1622. The ossuary from before was converted into a sacristy on the east side of the church tower . Old gravestones of former personalities also bear dates from this era .

The interior of the church is kept simple. The nave was also built in 1723. There are two-story galleries in it . The altar on the east side extends to the ceiling. Behind it the triumphal arch opens with a vaulted choir arch .

organ

The organ in the Protestant church in Wernshausen comes from the workshop of the Nuremberg organ builder Johannes Strebel . The instrument with two manuals and pedal and 15 registers , built in 1912, was restored in 2010 by Hey Orgelbau .
