Volkov Church

The Wolkow Church is a church building in the Wolkow district in the Wildberg municipality in the Mecklenburg Lake District . It belongs to the parish of Altenhagen of the Demmin provost in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

The church dates from the second half of the 13th century. Wolkow was mentioned in 1249 as the property of the Reinfeld Monastery , from which the local church and the one in neighboring Wildberg were founded. The church was built from field stone on a rectangular floor plan. On the east side there is an ogival group of three windows with an enclosed central window in a wide arched niche. The brick east gable above is structured with a central cross panel and panels arranged around it . On both long sides of a brick extends fries below the eaves . The south portal has richly structured walls and a flat projecting crenellated stepped superstructure with three stepped blind niches. At the end of the 19th century, the western part of the nave was redone in brick. The boarded church tower in front of the west gable was built in the 18th century. It is surmounted by a small, turret -like tower with a square cross-section and a baroque dome .

East gable

The altarpiece dates from 1736. In the predella and middle section there are oil paintings from the second half of the 19th century. The pulpit was built in the first half of the 18th century.

The bell was cast in 1765 by Johann Heinrich Scheel in Stettin .
