The Church of the transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas. ( Serbian : Храм преноса моштију Светог оца Николаја, Hram prenosa moštiju Svetog oca Nikolaja) in Krčedin is a Serbian Orthodox church in the autonomous northern Serbian province of Vojvodina . The village belongs to the Opština Inđija in the Srem region . The church was built from 1781 to 1804.

It is the transfer of the relics of St.. Nicholas Father consecrated and the parish church , the same parish Krčedin in the Dean's Office Sremski Karlovci the eparchy Srem of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

location

The church is in the center of the village of Krčedin. The church is not far from the banks of the Danube . It is located at the intersection of Cara Dušana Street , Uče Zekovića Street and Nade Janošević Street . Close to the church is the July 22nd Primary School , the Krčedin Market Square and the Post Office.

In the churchyard there are some silver firs and pines, while three linden trees stand in front of the church. On the left side of the churchyard there is an old stone cross surrounded by a wrought iron fence. It has a plaque with an inscription.

history

The church was built from 1781 to 1804 and consecrated in 1804 by Metropolitan Vićentije . During the First World War , the church bells were removed by the Austrians and melted down into cannons. The church got its current appearance at the beginning of the 19th century.

Danube Swabians also lived in the village until the late 1940s . Before they built their church, the services of the Germans took place in the Serbian Orthodox Church. The church has a rich library of church records. The church building was restored in 1973. In 1981 the interior of the church and the iconostasis were also renovated. The church received the status of a cultural monument of great importance in 1972 and in 1991 it was also categorized and placed under the protection of the State of Serbia.

The church was built as a single nave in the Baroque style with an altar - apse on the east side of the church. A baroque church tower was built on the west side of the church. The facades are built and decorated by a low base, pilasters and a wreath of similarly shaped roof. The outside of the church is surrounded by a wrought iron fence with ornate ornaments and patterns, especially at the entrance gate. The facade of the church is painted in a combination of white and ocher. The cross on the steeple is inclined a little to one side. In the courtyard there is a fountain and a baptistery, which was donated by wealthy villagers. The interior of the church is somewhat different from the other churches in Srem .

Iconostasis

The multi-storey iconostasis has been renovated several times. The iconostasis was carved by Edvard Vladarš , Dimitrije Lazarević and Teodor Vitković . The icons and the altar were painted by Peter Kamber in 1843 and extensively faced. The most important icons are those of St. Nicholas of Myra , St. John , the Mother of God with Christ and the Christ Icon. The choir was carved and painted by woodcarver Marko Vujatović and artist Dimitrije Lazarević in 1806. Dimitrije Lazarević also painted the frescoes in the church.
