Lokrume Church

The Church of Lokrume is a country church that has belonged to the parish (Swedish församling ) Väskinde (previously Lokrume församling ) in the Diocese of Visby since 2007 . It is located in the interior of the Swedish island of Gotland , 15.5 km northeast of Visby and 6.5 km south of Tingstäde.

Church building

An older stone church stood here towards the end of the 12th century. Parts of it flowed into the north wall of today's church building. In the first part of the 13th century was a new choir with ribbed vault built, probably Trinity Church in Visby, which is now in ruins along the lines of Santa. The building continued with the nave and finally the church tower , called Lokurm boddu , was built. This was finished in 1277 and the church was consecrated in the same year. Around 1250, a painting that imitated a wall made of large cuboids was attached to the triumphal arch . The acanthus tendrils of the sacristy are from the beginning of the 18th century. The upper parts of the tower have been rebuilt and the spire is dated to 1752.

Furnishing

The image of Christ on the triumphal cross is dated to the 12th century and is considered to be of the older type seen in connection with the work of the so-called Viklausmeister . The font is attributed to the stonemason Majestatis and is from around 1160. The pulpit is from the 17th century and the altar from 1707.
