from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kirchheimer Mühle , formerly Bruchhäuser Mühle , is a residential area in Heidelberg , located in the Kirchheim district . Originally it was a water mill on the Leimbach , today it is used for residential purposes.

location

The small hamlet is located in the southernmost area of Heidelberg in a corner of the district, which meets that of Sandhausen on three sides . The main complex is on the north side of the Leimbach, two individual buildings on the other side between the Leimbach and the Landgraben, which runs about 200 meters to the south . The Mühlhof, located immediately to the north, is an Aussiedlerhof , it belongs to Sandhausen. The Kirchheimer Mühle is connected to the rest of the transport network via two narrow streets: to the north to the road from Leimen to Schwetzingen , the former L 600 , to the east to the L 598 , which leads from Heidelberg to Sandhausen .

history

In 1711, the chief hunter Johann Jakob Kaiser from Bruchhausen received permission to build a grinding mill at the southeastern end of the area, on the banks of the Leimbach, and to operate it as a leaseholder . He was exempted from all kinds of taxes and various compulsory services, but in addition to his annual lease of 30 guilders, he had to deliver 25  Malter ground grain to the Electoral Palatinate court on Martin's Day . Since Mühle and Bruchhausen were a court domain , after the electoral Palatinate was dissolved in 1803 they fell not only territorially to the Electorate of Baden , but also became the direct property of the local ruling house. From 1804 both were jointly owned as entails by the three sons of the Elector and later Grand Duke Karl Friedrich from his second marriage, the Counts of Hochberg . In 1830 the mill was then sold to private, as a result of which it moved to the district of Kirchheim. Associated with this was a corresponding change of name, which only took hold over the course of time. The population remained consistently low: there were eleven in 1845 and nine in the 1905 census.

Today's building stock mostly dates from the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1854, the owner at the time, Schuh, built a new main building. After a fire, a new oil mill was built south of the stream , which was converted into a machine building in 1898. In 1933 the former laundry room at the end of the east wing was converted into a two-story residential building. The old courtyard paving is still there, as is the historical bridge arch to the opposite side of the stream.

Together with Kirchheim, the Kirchheimer Mühle was incorporated into Heidelberg in 1920. In 1934, the associated farm was split off from the mill. The latter was taken over by the University of Heidelberg in 1965, which ran an animal farm there until 2004. In the following years, the main complex , which is under ensemble protection , was converted for residential purposes.
