Kirsten Simone Vangsness (born July 7, 1972 in Pasadena , California ) is an American actress and screenwriter .

Life

She graduated from Cerritos High School in Cerritos , California in June 1990 . Vangsness worked at the theater and has already received several awards for her achievements, including the 15 Minutes of Female Best Actress Award , the Los Angeles Drama Critics Award for the best appearing funny actress and the Golden Betty Award .

She currently plays the role of audio and video technician Penelope Garcia on the Criminal Minds series . In the short-lived spin-off Criminal Minds: Team Red , she played the role of Penelope Garcia again in 2011 alongside Forest Whitaker . Since the tenth season of the mother series, she has been involved in a number of episodes as a screenwriter. She usually writes the books together with showrunner Erica Messer . She is also an author ; her work has already been published in the Los Angeles Times .

Kirsten Vangsness was engaged to screenwriter Melanie Goldstein for five years until 2013. In November 2015, she got engaged to writer Keith Hanson.
