Kirjat Ono ( Hebrew קִרְיַת אוֹנוֹ) is a city in Israel in the Tel Aviv district ; it belongs to the Gush Dan metropolitan area . In 2018 it had 39,986 inhabitants.
The name comes from the biblical place Ono ( 1 Chr 8.12 EU ; Esr 2.33 EU ; Neh 6.2; 7.37; 11.35 EU ).
history
In 1939 the village (Hebrew: Kfar) Kfar Ono was founded. In 1954 a reception camp for new immigrants was built there and the place merged with the surrounding communities to form Kirjat Ono. In 1992 Kirjat Ono received city status.
