The German 1000 Guineas (currently WEMPE German 1000 Guineas ) is a horse race over 1600 meters for three-year-old mares that takes place annually in Düsseldorf . The name is based on the British 1000 Guineas race. It's a Group II race .

history

In 1919 the race took place for the first time as a Kisasszony race on the Grunewald racecourse . Four years later it was moved to the Hoppegarten horse racing track . In 1941 the race was renamed the Black Gold Race , after the legendary race horse Schwarzgold , which won the race the previous year and went into breeding after that year. After the race was not held in 1945 and in the following year, it took place in Cologne in 1947 and a year later in Krefeld , before it was permanently moved to Düsseldorf from 1949 .

From 1972 the race was initially a Group III race; In 1985 it was raised to Group II racing. After that it got different names, first from 1989 ARAG Prize and from 1997 Henkel races . It is currently called WEMPE German 1000 Guineas .

100. German 1000 Guineas

The 100th German 1000 Guineas took place on June 21, 2020 at the Düsseldorf-Grafenberg racecourse. Because of the Corona crisis, no viewers were allowed. The race was won by the mare Lancade , named after the classic . The three-year-old is trained by Yasmin Almenräder in Mühlheim-Raffelberg for the Raffelberg stable, a community of owners. The Areion daughter was ridden by Adrie de Vries. The Lancade was drawn from the Fährhof stud farm. For Yasmin Almenräder this was the first victory in a classic race, but it was also the first victory of a trainer in this race.
