Ernst Kiss von Ittebe and Elemér (born June 13, 1799 in Temesvár , † October 6, 1849 in Arad (Romania) ) was a Hungarian revolutionary general.

Life

He comes from a wealthy landowning family. Joined the army at an early age, first lieutenant in the 3rd Uhlan regiment in 1824 , major in the 5th hussar regiment in 1836 , colonel in 1845 and commander of the 2nd hussar regiment in the Banat in 1848 . After the outbreak of the Hungarian revolution , he joined the rebels. In September / October 1848 he was in command of the Honved troops that had gathered in the Banat . With this function the appointment to general was connected. From January 1849 he was commander in chief of the land forces. At the time of the surrender at Világos , he was with Arthur Görgey's army . After the surrender, he had to surrender to Paskewitsch and was sentenced to death by a court martial on Haynau's orders and shot in Arad . He is one of the martyrs of Arad , whom Hungarians still remember today on October 6th . After a long legal battle, his confiscated property was returned to his rightful heirs in 1858.
