history
In 1969, Milwaukee based artist Denis Kitchen decided to publish his comics and cartoons in Mom's Homemade Comics magazine, inspired by the underground comix titles Bijou Funnies and Zap Comix . Motivated by the sale of over 4,000 copies, he founded Kitchen Sink Press in 1970.
In 1994 the company was sold to a Los Angeles-based investment group. Media entrepreneur Fred Seibert put together a group of small investors to try to stave off the company's fate in 1997. After the expansion into other entertainment and merchandising areas failed, Kitchen Sink Press broke up in 1999.
In 2013, Dark Horse Comics announced it had formed a joint venture called Kitchen Sink Books, focusing on large format illustrated art books, archived reprint collections, and original graphic novels .
The entire Kitchen Sink Press archive has been held at Columbia University's Rare Book & Manuscript Library since 2013 .
