The kkStB 189 was a tank locomotive series of the kk state railways of Austria , whose locomotives were converted from the narrow-gauge locomotives series  kkStB Gv 1903 .

When the horse-drawn railway Budweis – Linz – Gmunden was converted to locomotive operation, the track width of 1106 mm was retained. The kkStB Gv locomotives procured for this purpose were therefore narrow-gauge locomotives. When the kkStB, which had taken over the former horse-drawn railway, converted the line to standard gauge in 1903 , they also had the four existing GVs converted to standard gauge. However, the machines that Karl Gölsdorf had equipped with a Krauss-Helmholtz steering frame and therefore did not have a fixed wheelbase could only be used to a very limited extent. They were all stationed in Wels .

The BBÖ left three in 1929 and 1932 . The fourth came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1938 as 88.7101 , even survived the Second World War and was only scrapped by the Soviet administration in 1953 .
