Klaus-Peter Brandes

Klaus-Peter Brandes (born March 13, 1950 in Peine ) is a retired German diplomat and was most recently Ambassador to Malta until 2015 .

biography

After graduating from high school , in 1968 he began vocational training at Degussa AG in Frankfurt am Main . Then between 1970 and 1975 he studied economics and sociology at the Ruhr University Bochum and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and graduated with a degree in economics . He then worked as a research assistant at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and then from 1977 to 1978 at the Office for Economic Development of the City of Frankfurt am Main. In 1979 he first worked for the company for foreign trade information in Cologne and then from 1980 to 1983 the company's correspondent in Cairo .

He joined the Foreign Service in 1983 and, after completing his training as an attaché in 1985, first worked at the embassy in Dakar and then from 1988 to 1991 at the German Embassy in Washington, DC.After working in the press department of the Foreign Office , he was employed between 1993 and 1996 Permanent representative of the Ambassador to Zimbabwe . In 1996 he returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry and was first deputy head of the public relations department and then between 1997 and 1999 personal advisor to the ministers of state Helmut Schäfer and Ludger Volmer . In 1999 he was appointed ambassador to Brunei . In this post he was replaced by Adalbert Rittmüller in 2001 , while he himself became ambassador to Cameroon and was replaced there in 2004 by Volker Seitz . Afterwards, when he returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Office, he became head of the department for organization and global planning. In July 2007 he followed Jürgen Alfred Joachim Steltzer as ambassador to the United Arab Emirates . From August 2011 to 2013, he was the successor to Dr. Guido Herz holds the same office in Tanzania. From July 2013 to 2015, Klaus-Peter Brandes was the last active post as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Malta. Since then, he has been working on a voluntary basis in the Foreign Trade Advisory Unit of the Federal Foreign Office and for the African Association of German Business. He also acts as program director for the Asia and Pacific, International Diplomats Program, Cambodia and Laos and Myanmar departments of the Foreign Office's international diplomatic training.
