career

Amateur league, regional league, Bundesliga: until 1972

The midfielder and defender Klaus-Peter Stahl, who came from TSV Werbach, rose with Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the 1969/70 season from the Hessian amateur league to the regional soccer league south. He made his debut in the regional league on the third match day, on August 30, 1970 in the 1: 4 defeat in Rüsselsheim. At the side of the veterans Stefan Dahlem and Fred Englert, Stahl completed 33 league games and scored two goals. The team from the Schönbusch stadium could not keep up and immediately relegated to the amateur camp. Stahl himself got a contract with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for the 1971/72 season and was promoted to the Bundesliga .

Eintracht coach Erich Ribbeck was also able to plan with the prominent newcomers Ender Konca and Thomas Parits as well as the two talents from VfB Stuttgart Dieter Ungewitter and Roland Weidle . The regular formation of Eintracht in defense and midfield consisted of goalkeeper Peter Kunter, defensive players Peter Reichel, Friedel Lutz, Gert Trinklein and Karl-Heinz Wirth as well as Jürgen Kalb, Horst Heese, Bernd Nickel and Bernd in midfield Wooden leg together. The newcomer from Aschaffenburg, Klaus-Peter Stahl, only made four Bundesliga appearances and one game in the DFB Cup. Stahl was active in the preliminary round in 1971/72 in the away game in Mönchengladbach and in the second half in the games against Braunschweig, Oberhausen and VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. In the DFB-Pokal, he had also come into play in the 1-0 defeat at FC Schweinfurt on December 4, 1971. Since an improvement in his future opportunities did not seem likely, he moved to FSV Frankfurt after a round at Eintracht Frankfurt on the Bornheimer Hang .

FSV Frankfurt, 1972 to 1978

The step backwards - the FSV played in the first amateur league Hessen in 1972/73 - proved to be the right one for Stahl. He belonged to the regular formation of the black and blue, who won the championship before SpVgg 05 Bad Homburg and Opel Rüsselsheim and thus brought about promotion to the regional soccer league south. The high performance in the Hessian amateur upper house meant that the runner-up from Bad Homburg won the German amateur championship that year . Klaus-Peter Stahl's performance was personally rewarded by his appointment to the German national soccer team of amateurs . In the first game of the DFB amateurs after the 1972 Olympic tournament, on December 6, 1972 in Hertogenbosch, he formed the runner- up with Egon Schmitt and Jürgen Kalb in the 2-1 defeat in the international match against Holland. When Werner Schneider made his debut in the DFB amateur team, on February 28, 1973 in Montecatini against Italy, the Hessian played in his second amateur international match in the German 2-0 victory in defense.

In the last season of the second-rate regional football league, 1973/74 , FSV Frankfurt came 11th in the south. Stahl had played 30 games at the side of the veteran and playmaker Horst Trimhold - the ex-national player also acted as player-coach during the round - and scored two goals. With the reintroduction of the 2nd Bundesliga from the 1974/75 season, the FSV moved back into the amateur camp. After winning the championship in 1975, the Bornheimers returned to the second division before VfR Oli Bürstadt - the runner-up from Hessen won the German amateur championship in 1975 - and Hessen Kassel played in the 2nd Bundesliga South from the 1975/76 season.

Coach Milovan Beljin used Klaus-Peter Stahl in 95 championship games from 1975 to 1978. Stahl experienced the best placement in the 1976/77 round with seventh place, when attacker Paul-Werner Hofmann scored 21 goals for the FSV. The veteran played his last second division game on May 27, 1978 in an away game against FC Homburg. In the DFB Cup in 1977 and 1978 he reached the third main round twice. On December 18, 1976, Stahl retired with the FSV after a 1-0 defeat at FC Schalke 04 and on October 15, 1977 by a 3-0 home defeat against the eventual double winner 1. FC Köln .

Subsequently, Stahl continued his career as a player-coach in Hessian amateur football and was active in this function at SV Kriftel (1978), SG Kelkheim (1980–1982) and SpVgg Seligenstadt (1982).
