Klaus Adam (economist)

Klaus Adam (born September 20, 1971 in Herbolzheim ) is a German economist and professor at Oxford University .

Life

After Adam graduated from the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in 1996 with a degree in economics, he received his doctorate in 2001 at the European University Institute in Florence . After a short stay as a CARISAL Fellow at the University of Salerno , Adam changed from 2001 to 2007 as a professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main , where he completed his habilitation in 2003. From 2004 to 2008 he was an economist at the European Central Bank . Until 2018 he was professor at the University of Mannheim , where he held the chair for international economic relations, from 2011 to 2013 he was dean for graduate studies at the Graduate School of Social and Economic Sciences and academic director of the Center of Doctoral Studies in Economics, and has been since then Nuffield Professor of Economics at Oxford University and Professorial Fellow at Nuffield College . Since 2012 he has been a research professor at the Deutsche Bundesbank . He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Committee for Monetary Theory and Policy of the Verein für Socialpolitik . He has been a member of the Council of the European Economic Association since 2020 . He has co-authored reports for the European Commission and the OECD . Adam has published guest comments on economic topics in the Handelsblatt and FAZ and is regularly asked as an expert for comments by various German-speaking media.

research

Adam's research is in the field of macroeconomics , particularly monetary and fiscal policy . In 2010, Adam took fifth place in the Handelsblatt ranking of the most research-oriented economists under 40 years of age. He names Albert Marcet, Michael Woodford and Robert E. Lucas as role models .

Positions

In 2012 Adam was one of over 150 signatories of the "Open Letter from Economists", which criticized the resolutions of the then most recent Euro Summit .

2019 suggested Adam, along with Thiess Büttner , Joachim Henrich, Jan Pieter Krahnen and Jörg Rocholl , a new model for deposit insurance against that of the farming practices Isabel Schnabel was welcomed.

Personal

Adam's father owns a tax consultancy firm .
