Klaus Arnold (historian)

Klaus Arnold (born June 27, 1942 in Leuna ) is a German historian of medieval history .

At the University of Würzburg , he completed his studies in medieval history, art history and historical auxiliary sciences . In Würzburg he did his doctorate with Otto Meyer in 1971 with a dissertation on Johannes Trithemius . He then worked as a research assistant and as a private lecturer at the University of Würzburg. He then took on the position of professor for historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Bamberg (1980–1981), after which he was professor for Medieval and Modern History with a focus on the medieval social history of Western Europe at the University of Hamburg (1982–1992). From 1992 until his retirement in 2007 he held the chair for medieval history at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg .

The focus of his research is the history of German Renaissance - humanism , the peasant revolts of the late Middle Ages , the regional history franc , the history of war and peace and the social history of the Middle Ages and the early modern period . As co-editor, he oversees the articles on German and European history . In 1981 he was awarded the Prize of the Lower Franconian Memorial Year Foundation and in 2007 the Culture Prize of the City of Kitzingen .
