Klaus Beyreiss

Klaus Stephan Friedrich Beyreiss (also Beyreiß ; born April 13, 1934 in Mühlhausen ; † December 31, 2013 ) was a German physician and professor of pediatrics and neonatology at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Klaus Beyreiss studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1952 to 1957 . In 1958 he completed his compulsory assistant at the Cottbus District Hospital , where he also completed his specialist training in 1959/1960. In the year of his doctorate, the University hired Beyreiss as an assistant at the Institute for Physiological Chemistry . He held the position until 1964, when he was declared a specialist in this field and from then on worked at the university's children's clinic. From then on he headed the department of perinatology at the university and coordinated the cooperation with Czechoslovakia in this area.

Beyreiss received a teaching position for pediatrics in the field of medicine in 1977. In 1981 he was finally appointed full professor for pediatrics and neonatology. Since 1987 he has headed the international working group Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition .

In 1990 Beyreiss gave up his activities as head of topic complexes and more. Two years later he also left the university and its clinic. In 1980 he was awarded the Gustav Hertz Class II Prize.

Memberships

From 1978 to 1990 Beyreiss was both a member of the project council for perinatology at the Ministry of Health in the GDR and a member of the scientific council at the center for nutritional science at the university. From 1990 on, he also headed the Nutrition Commission of the Society for Pediatrics in the GDR for two years. From 1991 he was a member of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition (ESPGAN).
