Klaus Konrad August Brandner (born January 13, 1949 in Bentorf , today part of the municipality of Kalletal ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1998 to 2013 he was a member of the German Bundestag and from 2007 to 2009 Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs .

Life and work

After completing secondary school in 1965, Brandner completed an apprenticeship as an electrical mechanic , which he completed in 1968. He then worked in the profession he had learned until 1969 and then did military service until 1971 . He then worked as a technical clerk and in 1973 moved to IG Metall as a union secretary . In 1983 he became managing director and 2nd authorized representative and in 1988 managing director and 1st authorized representative of IG Metall Gütersloh .

Klaus Brandner is married and has two sons.

Political party

Brandner has been a member of the SPD since 1969. After he was deputy chairman of the SPD district association in Gütersloh from 2000 to 2005, he held office there from July 2005 to June 2006 as district chairman. Brandner is also a member of the board of the SPD region Ostwestfalen-Lippe .

MP

From October 26, 1998 to October 22, 2013, Klaus Brander was a member of the German Bundestag . From March 2001 to November 2007 he sat on the board of the SPD parliamentary group and was spokesman for the parliamentary group working groups on labor and social order (from 2002 economy and labor , from 2005 labor and social affairs ).

Klaus Brandner has always entered the Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia . He did not run for the 2013 federal election .

Public offices

After Olaf Scholz (SPD) took up his post as the new Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs on November 21, 2007, Brandner was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs. After the federal election in 2009 , the SPD left the federal government and Brandner resigned from his post in October 2009.
