Klaus Dieter Arndt (born March 9, 1927 in Berlin ; † January 29, 1974 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Arndt took part in World War II as a soldier from 1943 . In 1947 he passed the Abitur and then studied economics. After completing his studies, he began working as a research assistant at the German Institute for Economic Research in Berlin in 1950 . 1951 son Michael was born. 1959 took over Klaus Dieter Arndt at DIW as Head of National Accounts and was aged 32 at the time of the most recent Abteilungsleiter.1954 done his doctorate at the Free University of Berlin to Dr. rer. pole. with the work housing supply and rent level in the Federal Republic of Germany .

From 1968 until his early death in 1974 he was President of the German Institute for Economic Research. He was married and had three children. He is buried in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf .

Arndt, who joined the SPD in 1946, was a district councilor in Steglitz from 1958 to 1963 and then a member of the Berlin House of Representatives until 1965 . From 1965 until his death he was a member of the German Bundestag as a Berlin member of parliament for three electoral terms . In 1973 he became deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. Since 1971 he was also a member of the European Parliament .

Public offices

On April 12, 1967, he was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Economics in the Federal Government led by Federal Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger . He initially retained this office in the government led by Willy Brandt from 1969 , but then left office on September 14, 1970.
