Klaus Franke (born May 23, 1948 in Essen ) is a former German soccer player. From 1974 to 1978 he played 104 games in the defense of VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga and scored one goal. Before that he played at ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen .

career

For the 1969/70 round, the commercial employee Klaus Franke moved from amateur football from Steele 03 to Schwarz-Weiß Essen in the regional football league West . Franke played his first game in the regional league under ETB coach Horst Witzler on matchday 16, December 14, 1969, at the home game against Wattenscheid 09 . In the 2-2 draw he formed the defenders pair with Karl-Heinz Ressemann in front of goalkeeper Manfred Müller . He played a total of 135 games for the Uhlenkrugstadion team from 1969 to 1974 in the Regionalliga, scoring five goals. For the round 1974/75 Franke was committed by coach Heinz Höher for the Bundesliga club VfL Bochum. With the other VfL newcomers Paul Holz , Gisbert Horsthemke , Hans-Joachim Pochstein and Josef Kaczor , attempts were made to compensate for the loss of striker Hans Walitza .

Franke became a regular player right away, he completed all 34 rounds for VfL in 1974/75 and finished 11th with his club. Together with goalkeeper Werner Scholz and field players Michael Eggert , Hartmut Fromm , Michael Lameck , Franz-Josef Tenhagen and Dieter Versen , he formed the VfL defense in his debut season in the Bundesliga. He was also a member of the VfL-Elf, who beat FC Bayern Munich with a 3-0 home win on Friday, November 29, 1974 in front of 34,000 spectators. During the course of the round, he became the last man and from then on gave the signal to the higher team when the defenders advance when the game was played offside. Due to his dexterity with the ball, he is still considered the best VfL player in this position to this day (2005).

For the entire preliminary round 1975/76 Franke had to fight with an inflammation of the heart muscle and was only able to intervene again on February 7, 1976, the 20th match day, in the away game against Fortuna Düsseldorf on the lawn. The circumstances surrounding the conversion of the old arena on Castroper Strasse into the new Ruhrstadion also made things difficult for VfL. The Höher-Elf played the last six home games in the stadium at Schloss Strünkede in Herne and finally managed to stay in the league on the last day of the match with a 4-2 win against Karlsruher SC. Franke had contributed to this in 14 games. When VfL lost the home game with 5: 6 goals against Bayern Munich on September 18, 1976 after a 4-0 lead, the injury-related replacement of Klaus Franke in the 12th minute also contributed to the defensive on the home team Duration could not withstand the pressure of the Bayern stars.

After Klaus Franke was unable to play a league game for VfL in the 1978/79 season due to illness and injury, he ended his active career in 1980.
