Klaus Heider (born October 25, 1936 in Göppingen ; † October 28, 2013 in Stuttgart ) was a German graphic artist, painter, photographer, installation and object artist and university lecturer.

life and work

The trained graphic artist worked with a wide variety of printing techniques. These included etchings, lithographs, screen printing, offset printing and heliogravure. He also painted and drew and experimented with collages. Most recently he was mainly concerned with photography. From this examination of photography the Cosmic Photo Archive emerged, which, along with the shadow of infinity, is one of his most important works.

After training as a commercial artist, Klaus Heider applied to the Stuttgart Art Academy on the recommendation of his teacher . From 1957 to 1960 he studied painting and drawing with Manfred Henninger . In 1960 he moved to the Berlin School of Fine Arts . In 1964 Heider finished his studies as a master class student and returned to Göppingen in 1966. Until his death he lived and worked in Bad Boll and in Cima, Italy .

From 1970 to 1971 Heider represented the vacant chair for glass painting and mosaic at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . After a trip to the French Atlantic coast, the series Atlantikbunker was created between 1972 and 1975 . The works in the series can be described as the first artistic photographs of these buildings. During a guest stay at the Villa Romana in Florence in 1977 Heider realized a glass staircase permanently set into the floor. After a first visit to the Pantheon in Rome in 1982, an intensive painterly and photographic examination of this ancient building began. The discussion about the Pantheon went hand in hand with Heider's first light work Lichtjahr . In 1982 he was awarded the Villa Massimo Rome Prize . From 1983 to 2000 Heider held a professorship for photography and painting at the Pforzheim University of Design .

Klaus Heider was a member of the German Association of Artists .
