career

Youth and amateur - until 1970

As A-youth of the Eisbachtaler Sportfreunde , the defensive player Klaus Hommrich from SC Großholbach was appointed to the German youth national team by the DFB in the 1968/69 round. He made his debut in the DFB youth team on September 22, 1968 in Augsburg in a friendly against Yugoslavia. In March 1969, he and Jürgen Sobieray formed the German defenders in two successful qualifying matches for the UEFA tournament against Sweden. In the 1969 UEFA tournament, which was played in the GDR in May, he stood at the side of teammates Paul Breitner , Uli Hoeneß , Rolf Rüssmann , Klaus Scheer and Sobieray in the group games against Bulgaria and France, each of which lost 1-0 goals German team. The talent from the Westerwald accepted the contract offer from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for the round 1969/70 and moved to the Main metropolis.

Eintracht coach Erich Ribbeck tried to compensate for the departures of Walter Bechtold , Ernst Abbe, Helmut Kraus, Oskar Lotz and Heiko Racky with the newcomers Horst Heese , Hommrich, Albert Wachsmann and Gerhard Wagner . For financial reasons, Frankfurt tried to contest the season with a squad of 19 players (15 licensed players and four amateurs).

On the second match day, August 22, 1969, the young hopefuls from Eisbachtal made their debut in the Bundesliga . He was substituted on for the injured Wilhelm Huberts in the 40th minute in the 2-1 home win against Schalke 04 in the defense. Six more missions followed in the preliminary round. In the course of the round, however, the Eintracht defense established itself with goalkeepers Peter Kunter and Karl-Heinz Wirth , Friedel Lutz , Huberts and Lothar Schämer , so that Hommrich only played on the final day of the season, on May 3, 1970, at 1 : 5 defeat at Hamburger SV came to another Bundesliga appearance.

At the DFB he was able to gain additional competition experience in the amateur national team . On September 2, 1969, after two Bundesliga appearances, he celebrated his debut in the DFB selection in Frechen in the international match against Israel. With Egon Schmitt and Dieter Mietz he formed the runner row in the 1-1 draw and distinguished himself as the goalscorer for captain Erhard Ahmann's team . His second appointment to the amateur national team received Hommrich as part of the UEFA Amateur Cup in 1970, when he was substituted on on November 22, 1969 in Hagen in a 2-2 draw for the injured captain Ahmann. It was the last game of the DFB amateurs under DFB coach Udo Lattek , as he moved to Bayern Munich in March 1970 as a club coach . When Jupp Derwall, Lattek's successor, first looked after the DFB amateurs on March 25, 1970 - it went against Holland in Meppen - Hommrich formed the defensive with Friedhelm Haebermann , Dieter Mietz and Dieter Zorc in the 1-1 draw.

After eight Bundesliga appearances and three amateur international matches in the 1969/70 season, Klaus Hommrich ended the Eintracht Frankfurt chapter in the summer of 1970 and joined SV Röchling Völklingen in the Regionalliga Südwest for the 1970/71 round.

Völklingen - 1970 to 1979

Under coach Radoslav Momirski , Hommrich belonged to the regular formation of the Red-Blacks from the Stadion am Köllerbach and reached tenth place in the Southwest Regional Football League with his new club in the 1970/71 season. The top of the table with Borussia Neunkirchen, FK Pirmasens and Südwest Ludwigshafen was far away. In terms of sport, things clearly improved in the next two rounds, Völklingen was able to win the runner-up in the southwest twice in 1972 and 1973 . Outstanding was the defensive which had to accept only 19 goals against in 30 league games in the 1972/73 season. Klaus Hommrich played all 16 games for the Saarlanders in the promotion rounds in 1972 and 1973. Hommrich and colleagues did not have a realistic chance of promotion against the competitors Kickers Offenbach, Rot-Weiss Essen and Darmstadt 98. In the last year of the old second-rate Regionalliga Südwest, Völklingen came fourth and was thus qualified for the new 2nd Bundesliga. In addition to the two runner-up championships, the games against his home club Eisbachtaler Sportfreunde, which had achieved promotion to the regional league in the 1972 season, stood out for the Westerwald in the rounds of 1972/73 and 1973/74. Klaus Hommrich met his brother Horst, who as a libero was a constant among sports fans.

The adaptation to the growing opposition from the former Regionalliga Süd - Karlsruher SC, FC Schweinfurt 05, FC Bayern Hof, TSV 1860 Munich, 1. FC Nuremberg, Waldhof Mannheim, SpVgg Bayreuth, Darmstadt 98, FC Augsburg - also brought under the experienced coach Helmuth Johannsen only came 13th in the debut round of the southern league in 1974/75. On the first matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga South, Hommrich and his teammates Jürgen Stars, Hans-Werner Kremer, Roland Latz, Gerd Paulus, Werner Martin, Lothar Weschke, Peter Piroth, Gerd Warken, Walter Spohr and Gilbert Dussier won 2-1 goals the SpVgg Bayreuth. Hommrich had appeared in 32 games. In the second year, 1975/76, the 29 goals of top scorer Karl-Heinz Granitza catapulted the team of new coach Herbert Binkert to sixth place in the southern league. Hommrich had played 33 of the 38 rounds and scored three goals for Völklingen. When the striker had to be transferred to Hertha BSC after seven missions in the 1976/77 round for financial reasons, Völklingen went downhill. At the end of the round, the SV was in 16th place and voluntarily renounced the license for the next second division season. Hommrich said goodbye on the 38th matchday with the 1: 4 defeat at KSV Baunatal from the 2nd division. Klaus Hommrich played a total of 96 games in the 2nd Bundesliga from 1974 to 1977, scoring four goals.

Hommrich added two more laps in Völklingen in the amateur camp. 1977/78 it was enough in the Hermann-Neuberger Stadium to runner-up in the amateur league Saarland and in 1978/79 the title was brought to Völklingen in the amateur Oberliga Südwest, which was played for the first time. Hommrich no longer went to the 2nd Bundesliga, but took over the position of player-coach for the amateurs of 1860 Munich for the 1979/80 round . He stayed there until 1982 and then also acted as a player-coach at ASV Dachau. In 1984/85 he ran again for the reserve of the Munich Lions , in seven league games he scored one goal.
