Klaus Jahresig (born  May 13, 1935 in Plaue-Bernsdorf ; †  November 6, 2011 in Hanover ) was a German pediatrician . From 1974 to 1991 he was professor for paediatrics and director of the children's clinic at the University of Greifswald .

Life

Klaus Jahresig was born in Plaue-Bernsdorf in 1935 and studied medicine at the University of Leipzig from 1954 to 1959 and at the Military Medical Section of the University of Greifswald . In 1960 he received his doctorate in Greifswald with a hematological thesis. After his subsequent training as a specialist in paediatrics and sub-specialization in neonatology , he also received his habilitation in 1970 in Greifswald .

In 1974, he was appointed full professor of paediatrics and was appointed director of the children's clinic at the University of Greifswald. He headed the clinic until 1991 and then settled with his wife in a group practice in Ronnenberg near Hanover . Between 1989 and 1994 he was also a visiting professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . In addition, he was President of the European Society of Perinatal Medicine from 1973 to 1990 and Chairman of the Society for Pediatrics of the GDR from 1983 to 1990.

Klaus Jahresig has published more than 130 scientific publications and several monographs , in particular on pediatric neurology , phototherapy of hyperbilirubinemia and diagnosis in childhood. In the GDR he was awarded the title of Senior Medical Officer in recognition of his services . He died in Hanover in 2011 .
