Klaus Offerhaus

Klaus Offerhaus (born October 12, 1934 in Mannheim ; † October 26, 2019 in Munich ) was President of the Federal Fiscal Court from 1994 to 1999 .

life and work

After completing his legal training and doctorate , Offerhaus initially settled as a lawyer before he joined the financial administration in 1962 . In 1966 he became a research assistant at the Federal Fiscal Court, from 1970 he was seconded to the Federal Ministry of Justice before he was appointed judge at the Federal Fiscal Court in 1975 .

In 1980 he was appointed presiding judge. The Presidium assigned him the chairmanship of the Fifth Senate, which is primarily concerned with issues of sales tax law. From 1983 to 1988 he was the press spokesman for the Federal Fiscal Court. He was then appointed presiding judge of his Senate in 1988. In 1990 he became Vice President and in 1994 President of the Federal Fiscal Court. A commemorative publication was dedicated to Offerhaus on the occasion of his retirement .

Offerhaus was honorary professor at the University of Augsburg ; he published numerous articles in specialist journals and contributed to commentary .
