Wolfgang Mersmann

Wolfgang Felix Walter Mersmann (born June 19, 1902 in Kiel , † September 25, 1973 in Bad Kissingen ) was a German tax lawyer and President of the Federal Fiscal Court .

Life

From 1930 Mersmann worked in the Hamburg financial administration , most recently as chief government director . In the Second World War he served as a state rifleman in the Wehrmacht . In Hamburg he was also chairman of the Goethe Society until 1948 when he joined the emerging West German financial administration in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe .

From 1948 to 1949 he worked in the Department of Finance of the United Economic Area (Bizone) in Bad Homburg, where as deputy head of Division III (customs duties, fiscal monopolies , excise , possession and transfer taxes ). From 1949 to 1962 he was a civil servant in the Federal Ministry of Finance , where from 1950 to 1962 he was head of Department IV (property and transaction taxes). After all, he was President and Judge of the Federal Fiscal Court from May 21, 1962 to June 30, 1970.

Together with the then President of the Bavarian Lawyers' Association, lawyer Fritz Ostler , Mersmann was responsible for the establishment of the Munich Legal Society on January 1, 1966.
