Klaus Rupprecht

Klaus Rupprecht (born September 20, 1942 in Ludwigsburg ) is a former German diplomat and was last consul general of the Federal Republic of Germany in Toronto , Canada from 2002 to 2007 .

Life

After studying politics and law at Saarland University , Freie Universität Berlin and Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, he studied at the School of Law at the University of Iowa , which he obtained in 1968 with the academic degree of “Master of Comparative Law “Concluded. In 1972 the doctorate to Dr. iur. with a dissertation on the topic of package trading and package surcharges in American and German stock corporation law at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.

After joining the Foreign Service in 1972, he was employed at the German embassies in Portugal , Brazil , the Foreign Office in Bonn (Division 201 NATO and Security Issues) and the Embassy in the People's Republic of China (press officer).

1986 to 1989 Rupprecht was Deputy Consul General in Los Angeles . After a renewed use in the Foreign Office (legal department) he became head of the political department at the embassy in the People's Republic of China in 1992 .

From 1996 to 1999 Klaus Rupprecht was head of Section 309 (East Asia) at the Federal Foreign Office in Bonn. After that, Rupprecht was Director General of the German Institute in Taipei / Taiwan from 2000 to 2002 and most recently Consul General in Toronto between 2002 and 2007. In 2007 he retired , while the office of Consul General was taken over by Holger Raasch , who was previously legal advisor to the Foreign Office.

From 1999 to 2000, Klaus Rupprecht was visiting scholar ( Fellow ) at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University in Cambridge , USA .
