Klaus Schaller

Klaus Schaller (born July 3, 1925 in Erdmannsdorf / Riesengebirge ; † May 17, 2015 in Bochum ) was a German educational scientist and since 1990 professor emeritus for education at the Ruhr University Bochum . He also made a name for himself as an actor and reciter .

Live and act

Schaller was the son of a main teacher and cantor . After high school, school assistant course, teacher training in Kettwig , study of pedagogy, philosophy, German and theater studies in Cologne a. a. with Theodor Ballauff and after training as an actor with Christa Morschel, Schaller completed his habilitation in 1959 with Ballauff in Mainz. From 1959 to 1964 he was professor and for two years rector of the University of Education in Bonn and chairman of the structural committee for the reorganization of teacher training in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1965 he was appointed to the newly founded Ruhr University Bochum, where in 1970 he founded the only Comenius research center organized outside of Czechoslovakia , the importance of which was recognized in East and West before 1990. Schaller died on May 17, 2015 at the age of 89 in Bochum.

Schaller has published the results of his research on Comenius, on critical pedagogy , on communicative didactics and on pedagogy of communication in very extensive writings . A special topic in Bochum concerns Carl Arnold Kortum .

Klaus Schaller was awarded the Palacký and Jan Patočka medals by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic . He is the holder of the Medal of Merit 1st Class of the Czech Republic. He holds honorary doctorates from the Charles University in Prague and the Agricultural and Veterinary University of Cluj-Napoca .
