Klaus Schmidt

Klaus Schmidt (born September 25, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian mathematician and professor at the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna .

After studying mathematics at the University of Vienna , he received his doctorate in 1968 under Edmund Hlawka . After researching at the Technical University of Vienna , the University of Manchester , Bedford College and the University of Warwick , he returned to the University of Vienna in 1994. In 2009 he retired.

In 1994 he received the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize . He is a real member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

Among other things, he deals with ergodic theory and connections with arithmetic , commutative algebra , harmonic analysis , operator algebras and probability theory .
