Klaus Schneewind

Klaus Alfred Snow Wind (* 19th October 1939 in Nuremberg ) is a German psychologist and emeritus professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich . The focus of his work lies in the field of personality psychology and family psychology .

academic career

After studying psychology, Schneewind worked from 1964 to 1970 as a research assistant at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . During this time he received his doctorate to become a Dr. phil. with a work on self and external assessment of the speaking voice. The work in Nuremberg was interrupted by a research stay with Raymond B. Cattell at the University of Illinois .

In 1970 Schneewind became professor of psychology at the University of Trier . In 1977 he received a chair for personality psychology , psychological diagnostics and family psychology in Munich. Schneewind has retired since spring 2008.

Research interests

Schneewind's research concerns the conditions of functioning couple relationships, the effects of parenting styles and special aspects of family psychology such as the desire to have children and childlessness. In a 16-year longitudinal study , he researched the development of generalized control beliefs under different family conditions. Schneewind, himself a family therapist, also devotes himself to the development and evaluation of methods of family therapy and counseling. Schneewind played a pioneering role with a research project on the psychosocial aspects of living kidney donation.
