Helmut Lukesch (born September 27, 1946 in Linz ) is an Austrian psychologist . From 1979 to 2011 he was Professor of Educational Psychology and Media Psychology at the University of Regensburg .

Life

Helmut Lukesch graduated from the federal teacher training institute in Salzburg in 1965 and was thus qualified to teach at elementary schools. During his studies of psychology, education and philosophy from 1966 to 1967 at the University of Innsbruck , influential professors were Ivo Kohler , Lotte Schenk-Danzinger and Wolfgang Brezinka . He then moved to the University of Salzburg (1967–1972), where he received his doctorate in 1971. phil. Important university teachers in Salzburg were Wilhelm Josef Revers and Paul Weingartner . From 1971 to 1973 he worked as a university assistant there at Erwin Roth's Institute for Psychology . From 1973 to 1977 he worked as a research assistant in the Department of Education at the University of Konstanz with Wolfgang Brezinka. From 1978 to 1979 he worked together with Helmut Fend as a project manager for the "Comparative Studies in North Rhine-Westphalia" at Center I for Educational Research and the SFB 23 at the University of Konstanz.

In 1976 he completed his habilitation and Lukesch received the license to teach "Psychology with special consideration of developmental psychology and educational psychology" in Constance. After a substitute professor at the University of Regensburg from 1978 to 1979, he was appointed full professor of psychology there in 1979. Despite his appointments at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel (1990) and at the University of Konstanz (1997), he remained at the University of Regensburg . Here he retired with effect from October 1, 2011, but continued his university activities as a chair representative for two more semesters at the University of Passau .

His research focuses on questions of psychological diagnostics (test development), media research (media usage and media impact research, content analysis on television), family socialization research, early human development (psychology of pregnancy), comparative school research ( comprehensive school vs. tripartite school system ) and that Learning with new media ( e-learning ). He published the world's first database on psychological test procedures, which is now offered by the ZPID under the name " psyndex + Tests " and is kept up-to-date (this database contains almost 8000 test descriptions as of May 2020). As a service for psychology students, he developed the first internet-based internship database for psychology students , as well as a self-supplementable institute history (chronicle of the institute for psychology) for the external presentation of the institute for psychology at the University of Regensburg . Particular emphasis is placed on sustainability, whereby, for example, the developed e-learning courses are routinely updated or the other products can be supplemented by authorized third parties. In addition to 23 books, 10 tests, 84 contributions to compilations and 74 magazine articles, there is a wealth of lectures at home and abroad. Current research activities include: a. on questions of motivation and intelligence research, with updating (cf. the so-called Flynn effect ) and the new development of corresponding diagnostic procedures in the center.

On behalf of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Culture, he was involved in setting up the Sino-German translation and information center at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou (China). As a member of the jury, he participated in the awarding of the German Computer Game Prize 2009. In 2010, he was also a member of the “Alliance for Children Against Violence” jury, where various violence prevention projects in Germany were evaluated and awarded. In 2010 he and his team hosted the Bavarian Congress for School Counseling at the University of Regensburg .

In academic teaching, Helmut Lukesch has made a name for himself in the courses for student teachers to become advisory teachers and for media education according to LPO I. In Bavaria, you can only become a counseling teacher if you successfully complete a two-year course that ends with a state examination. The two-year media pedagogy course is also a prerequisite in Bavaria for becoming a media pedagogy and information technology consultant (MIB) .
