Klaus Tober (born April 30, 1950 in Parchim ; † February 20, 1994 in Berlin ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

On the recommendation of his art teacher, Klaus Tober took part in an international drawing competition in New Delhi at the age of 16 with the linocut spring order and received the Nehru gold medal. In 1969 he began studying art education at the Humboldt University in Berlin , which he successfully completed in 1973. He then worked as a teacher in Reinsberg at Jüterbog until 1975 .

From 1974 to 1977 he completed an evening course at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art , after which he studied painting there until 1979 with Hans Vent and Günther Brendel, among others . From 1975 to 1977 Klaus Tober worked for art exhibitions in the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR . From 1977 he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist.

Already seriously ill in 1992, Klaus Tober died at the age of 43.

His oeuvre covers a broad spectrum such as oil painting , graphics , collages and photography . He was always looking for new ways of artistic expression. At the end of the 1980s, he developed a technique that enabled him to work in a playful, experimental and targeted manner. He stuck tissue paper on colored grounds , painted over them, rubbed them with damp sponges until bizarre structures emerged. In the oil and graphic works, light and shadow effects make his figures appear particularly intense and profound.
