Klaus Urban (actor)

Klaus Urban (born March 16, 1934 in Weißwasser / Oberlausitz ; † July 12, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German actor and director .

Life

In 1953, Klaus Urban passed his Abitur in Weißwasser and then studied at the Leipzig Theater School until 1956 . He received his first engagement as an actor from 1956 to 1960 at the Friedrich-Wolf-Theater in Neustrelitz and then from 1960 to 1969 at the theater of friendship in Berlin . During this time he was FDJ secretary of the theater and a member of the central council of the FDJ. In 1969, Klaus Urban founded the Theater for Young Audiences in Magdeburg , which he headed as director until 1972. In the same year he staged the play The Enchanted Brothers by Jewgeni Schwarz in the Kulturpalast for children in Cairo (Egypt) . Also in 1972 he returned to the theater of friendship as the deputy director for artistic matters, where he was director from January 1974 to 1985. He was also involved in the International Theater Association for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ).

From 1985 to 1987 Klaus Urban was the district councilor for culture in the Berlin district of Treptow . He then worked as a freelance actor, city guide and tour guide until 2004.
