Klaus von Heimendahl (General, 1960)

Klaus Georg Walther von Heimendahl (born March 26, 1960 ) is a Lieutenant General in the Army of the Bundeswehr and has been Head of the Personnel Department in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) since March 22, 2018 .

Life

Klaus von Heimendahl is a member of the von Heimendahl noble family . He is the son of the late Brigadier General Klaus Paul Adolf von Heimendahl and his wife Magrit Barbara Elisabeth von Heimendahl, née von Wietersheim (* 1935).

In 1978 he joined the German Armed Forces as an officer candidate for the armored force . From 1991 to 1993 von Heimendahl was a participant in the general and admiralty staff training course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr , where he was trained as an officer in the general staff service and received the General Heusinger Prize . During his time as battalion commander of the  403 tank battalion in Schwerin , the first A6 version of the Leopard 2 battle tank was handed over to the troops in his battalion . He commanded the 41st Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Torgelowfrom July 24, 2007 to May 4, 2009. His successor was Benedikt Zimmer . Afterwards von Heimendahl was deputy commander of the 13th Panzer Grenadier Division in Leipzig .

On December 13, 2012, von Heimendahl became the Federal Armed Forces commissioner for post-traumatic stress disorder . He handed this office over to General Doctor Bernd Mattiesen on July 1, 2015, and took up his new role as Sub-  Department Head I of the Armed Forces Management Department at the BMVg. From September 1, 2015, von Heimendahl was also head of the "Refugee Aid Steering Group" and then of the "Refugee Aid Coordination Unit" in the BMVg. On August 1, 2017, Heimendahl became Head of the Armed Forces Department as the successor to Lieutenant General Eberhard Zorn . Since March 22, 2018 he has been Head of Human Resources at the BMVg.
