Klaus von Heimendahl (General, 1933)

Klaus Paul Adolf von Heimendahl (born November 12, 1933 in Potsdam ; † March 1, 2013 there ) was a German officer and brigadier general in the Bundeswehr .

Life

Klaus von Heimendahl was a member of the noble family von Heimendahl . His parents were Klaus Erich Friedrich and Elisabeth Klara Hedwig Eleonore von Heimendahl, née von Hagen.

From April 1958 he was married to Magrit Barbara Elisabeth von Heimendahl, née von Wietersheim (* 1935). His grave is in the Bornstedt cemetery . Their son, Klaus Georg Walther, is a lieutenant general in the Bundeswehr.

Military background

Before founding the Bundeswehr at the Federal Border Police (BGS), von Heimendahl completed the training course for young drivers and after the founding of the Bundeswehr was one of the first 550 unserved volunteers who received their basic training on January 2, 1956 in the Andernach "Troop Camp" (name since 1967: Krahnenberg barracks ) Members of the army teaching group (Bundeswehr) took part. As an officer candidate and member of the 1st officer candidate class (OAJ) of the tank troops , after completing his basic training, he joined the 2nd platoon of the 4th training company of the army training troops in Andernach. Because of previous service in the BGS, he was among those who on May 1, 1956 to the cadet and on 15 June 1956 Ensign were transported. From July to November 1956 he completed the Fahnenjunker course at the newly opened Army Officer School I in Hanover and from December 1 - promoted to lieutenant on that day due to the previous period of service at the BGS - until the end of May 1957 the platoon leader course at the troop school for the armored forces in Munster .

From 1985 to 1990 he was the commander of the 20th Panzer Brigade . From 1993 to March 30, 1994, his last military assignment was in command of the 5th Panzer Division .

Other work

In 1978 he joined the Order of St. John and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Johanniter Hospital in Fläming gGmbH from 1999 to December 2009 , and from 2007 to 2009 also for the Johanniter Hospital in Belzig.

Heimendahl was a sponsor and long-term chairman of the German Property Foundation, founded in 2002/2003, and was involved in the management of the Private Monument Property Action Group (APD) in the working group of landowners' associations . He was also active in the Association of German Nobility Associations.
