The Kleeburg is a moated castle with a small mansion including a bridge and a three-winged outer bailey near the Euskirchen district of Weidesheim . Once she watched over the nearby Heerstrasse. Today it is the main office of a well-known outerwear company.

history

The original complex was probably built in the 14th century and has been documented since 1393, when the married couple Johann and Eva von Bendeman and their sister-in-law von Cleberg were mentioned as owners of the castle in the same year. In the middle of the 15th century, the castle changed to the von Dadenberg family. The west and east towers were added in 1591 and 1594, respectively. In 1671 the castle was divided between the Gymnich von Vlatten , the Gymnich von Gymnich and the Freiherren von Rolligen.

The ownership of the castle remained divided until finally Johanna Maria von Gymnich acquired all three parts of the property. When she died as the last of her family in 1825, she bequeathed the castle to the neighboring baron Ludwig Joseph Spies von Büllesheim .

After a fire, the castle was rebuilt in 1894. Parts of the south wing and the entire west wing were removed. Based on the defensive wall in the south, a large barn was built, as well as some half-timbered buildings in the east , which today serve as living and office space.

For the years from 1929 to 1997 a Conen family can then be proven as owners. In 1938 the roof of the mansion burned down. In 1986 the Kleeburg, already badly dilapidated, was placed under monument protection. In 1997 it was acquired by Michael Freiherr von Korff . From 1997 to 2002 the facility was renovated in cooperation with the Rhenish Office for the Preservation of Monuments and became the headquarters of the company "Daniels & Korff".
