Niederkastenholz Castle

The Niederkastenholz castle is a former moated castle in the Euskirchen district of Niederkastenholz (Burgstrasse 19) in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The manorial rule of the moated castle and the village of Niederkastenholz of the imperial abbey Kornelimünster under the protection of the Duke of Jülich is attested in the 11th century, remained a "beneficium" of the monastery provosts until the secularization in 1804, was transferred in 1807 by the French domain administration with the associated lands to the Herren von Vincke in Flamersheim sold and was then in civil ownership.

description

The fortified tower from the 12th century represents the oldest part of the castle complex with the main and outer bailey made of quarry stone masonry , which is easily visible from its wrought iron gate . The angular main castle was supplemented from 1752 to 1756 by the so-called Propstei . Only part of the moat , which was buried in the 19th century, has survived . The castle still represents an impressive image of a rural castle complex from the 18th century.
