The Große Alpsee is an approximately 2.5 km² natural lake in the northern Allgäu Alps with a circumference of 8.1 km in the western urban area of Immenstadt im Allgäu in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu in Bavaria . The main inflow and outflow is the Konstanzer Ach , which shortly after it also flows through the Kleiner Alpsee .
description
The lake extends a good three kilometers in an easterly direction, reaches a width of almost one kilometer and is traversed by the Konstanzer Ach from the west . Almost a dozen sloping streams from the mountains on the north side and a little less from those above the south bank provide further inflow; the larger ones have silted noses up to 150 meters long into the lake. Less than 200 meters above the west bank is the 4.6 ha large Teufelssee , a residual waters from the time even further submitted when the lake to the west. The Konstanzer Ach leaves it at the east end through the church village of Bühl am Alpsee von Immenstadt and shortly thereafter flows through the small Alpsee, which is only about 7.5 hectares in size, eastwards to the Iller in Immenstadt.
The lake is owned by the Free State of Bavaria. The Bavarian Administration of State Palaces, Gardens and Lakes is responsible for its administration .
Nature and leisure
The landscape protection area Großer Alpsee with the lake in it covers approx. 827 ha, the landscape protection area Kleiner Alpsee in Immenstadt with and around the smaller lake approx. 67 ha.
Because it is located in the wide, east-facing Konstanzer Tal , which allows the prevailing westerly winds to pass through, the Great Alpsee is a good sailing and surfing area. Winds from other directions in its eastern part, where there are no such high mountains border the shore, often lead to strong turbulences; the wind direction can therefore turn very quickly. The sailing club Alpsee-Immenstadt organizes several regattas per year in different boat classes .
There are three places for bathing on the south-west, south-east and east bank, where there is also a campsite. The Allgäu Railway runs close to the north bank .
