The Klek is a summit on the eastern edge of Velika Kapela- -Massivs, near the town of Ogulin . Depending on the direction from which you look at it, its appearance can vary greatly. To many, the peak, which is 200 meters above the tree line, looks like the head of a giant, while the slightly lower Klečica ( 1062  m. I. Year ) , connected by a mountain ridge, represents the feet. Not least because of this, there is no mountain in all of Croatia with which more myths and legends are associated - among other things, according to folklore, it is said to have been a meeting place for witches, comparable to the Blocksberg in the Harz Mountains . In good weather conditions, you can see the capital Zagreb , about 100 km away, from its top .

The southeast face of the Klek is traditionally a school for Croatian mountain climbers, at which many in the then Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia made their first organized tour.

Its beauty was considered an inspiration for the Graz mathematics professor Johannes von Frischauf to initiate the founding of the Croatian Alpinists' Association (HPD) in 1874, which also included the Klek in its coat of arms to commemorate the beginnings of organized mountaineering in Croatia.

About 180 meters below the summit is a mountain hut , construction of which began in 1954 and which was officially opened on October 12, 1958. It was renovated in 1988 and now offers 40 beds. It is run by members of the “Klek” alpine club and is open on weekends. In 1994 over 1000 mountaineers celebrated the 120th anniversary of organized mountain climbing in Croatia.

The Klek moved up during the Alpine orogeny in the Tertiary and geologically consists of carbon sediments , i.e. H. Jurassic limestone and dolomite , while the summit is made of chalk limestone .
