Klemens Koschig (born December 26, 1957 in Dessau ) is a non-party German local politician. From July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2014, he was Lord Mayor of the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau .

Life

Koschig grew up in Roßlau (Elbe) from the age of four. After his graduation in 1976 from the EOS Roßlau he does his military service in the willingness of the German People's Police in Halle . From 1978 he studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Magdeburg . At the same time, he began studying theology for lay people in Magdeburg.

Koschig was an active member of the Catholic Student Community of St. Augustinus Magdeburg, among other things as a spokesman and member of the Central Working Group of the Catholic Student Communities in the GDR (ZAK). In 1983 he successfully completed his studies as a graduate engineer and took a position as a project engineer at VEB Deutsches Hydrierwerk in Rodleben , where he worked until 1990. 1985 also followed the completion of his theology studies.

In January 2007, Klemens Koschig helped found the New Fruit Bringing Society . He is also a member of the executive board of the Rotary Club Dessau.

Klemens Koschig has been married to Silvia Beuter since 1979 and has five children.

Political work

In the autumn of 1989 Klemens Koschig took part in the peaceful demonstrations in Roßlau and Dessau, sometimes as a speaker. He joined the New Forum Roßlau and soon became the speaker of the New Forum at the Roßlau Round Table .

After the municipal elections in 1990, Koschig joined the public administration of the Roßlau district and became a personal assistant to the district administrator and head of the press office. On October 25, 1990 he was elected mayor of the city of Roßlau (Elbe) and was confirmed in office in the local elections in 1994 and 2001. Until the merger with the city of Dessau on July 1, 2007, Klemens Koschig was mayor of the city of Roßlau.

On April 22, 2007, the citizens of Dessau and Roßlau (Elbe) elected him with 56.8 percent of the votes in the first ballot for the first mayor of the city of Dessau-Roßlau, which emerged on July 1, 2007 from the merger of the two cities. On June 15, 2014 Koschig lost the runoff election for the post of OB against the FDP politician Peter Kuras , supported by a cross-party coalition , who succeeded him on July 1, 2014 as Lord Mayor of the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau.
