Location of Klennow in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district

Klennow is a district of the city of Wustrow (Wendland) in the joint municipality of Lüchow (Wendland) in the south of the Lüchow-Dannenberg district , Lower Saxony .

geography

The Rundlingsdorf is located about three kilometers north of the core town of Wustrow and about three kilometers southwest of Lüchow in Wendland . In the northeast, the village connects directly to the neighboring village of Neritz . The village is bordered in the east by the Jeetzel River , a southern tributary of the Elbe .

history

Klennow was first mentioned in 1360 as " Klenowe " in the Lüneburg fief register. The place name Klenowe can be derived from the West Slavic language Polabisch and means German  maple (compare Russian клен klen ). Even today, the central square in the center of the Rundling is shaded by mighty maple trees . The place is later mentioned as " Kleynow " or " Clennow ".

In 1769 a fire destroyed almost half of the 18 farmsteads at that time. Until the 19th century, the village complex remained an almost complete circle of four-column houses , which were grouped around the central square in the center. Today the townscape also shows some residential and farm buildings from later times.

With the incorporation into the city of Wustrow on July 1, 1972 in the course of the regional reform of Lower Saxony , Klennow's status as an independent municipality ended.
