Lensian is a district of the city of Wustrow (Wendland) in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony .
geography
The place is a small round village in Wendland . It is located about 5 km northwest of the core town of Wustrow and about 8 km west of Lüchow . The neighboring town is Schreyahn , where the round shape has also been excellently preserved.
history
The place name comes from the Slavic term Lentzan (= swamp meadow, floodplain). The first written mention is dated to the year 1360. The original round shape with an access road had already been removed in earlier centuries. The Kurhannoversche land survey of 1776 shows that already at this time there were roads leading into the village from the west and south. According to a site sketch from 1814, it was a paved road that cut through the town. The fact that it was paved at that time suggests that it was a traffic route with supra-local significance that connected Uelzen with Lüchow via Clenze . It later became Landesstraße 261.
While a fire destroyed the southern half of the village in 1814, there was a major fire in 1843 that destroyed the northern part of the village.
On July 1, 1972 Lensian was incorporated into the city of Wustrow.
