Kliedbruch
Kliedbruch is a statistical district in Krefeld , which together with Inrath forms the Inrath / Kliedbruch district and is now one of the city's residential districts. The face of the district is characterized by numerous houses by the Krefeld architect Karl Buschhüter and his student Friedrich Kühnen.
The Kliedbruch, today a drained break area , was a common land between the former Krefeld Honschaft Inrath and Bockum . The swamp was criss-crossed by dikes, the so-called dyks.
Although it is cut through by two heavily frequented traffic arteries, Nassauer Ring and Moerser Straße, its high quality of living can be explained by a number of special advantages, e.g. B. its location between the city forest in the east and the broken meadows in the northwest.
In 1879 the large wooden ship of the once famous floating Rhine circus was auctioned in Duisburg harbor. The architect Jakob Kühnen from Uerdingen bought it, had it towed to the local port and used it to build a farm in nearby Kliedbruch around 1880. The property was popularly known as the "Bold Circus" . It was destroyed in a bombing raid in June 1943 and the owners perished. With him, the last remains of the floating Rhine circus that were built there disappeared.
